02-24-2020 COVID-19 Update

Hello NYSL Families,

We hope this email finds you and your family safe and healthy this holiday weekend. As we all know the COVID-19 situation continues to be fluid and difficult to predict, but we are seeing steps in relaxing some of the Stay-Home restrictions.  On Friday, the County and City of Sacramento were approved by the State to move to the State’s “Stage 2” Roadmap to Modify the COVID-19 Stay-at-Home Order.  Unfortunately, Stage 2 does not re-instate youth contact sports.  But we are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel, with that said we remain hopeful that we will be able to return to the pitch by mid to late summer. Based on this we would like to provide you with an update of our plans for both our Recreational and Competitive Programs.

RECREATIONAL (REC) PROGRAM

Without a clear timeline to reaching Stage 4 from State and local government the NYSL Board has determined it would be best to postpone the opening of REC registration date until mid-June. Nonetheless, we are continuing to work with our CSA playing partners to develop possible scenarios for the fall season.

1.                   The best-case scenarios would be registration opening June 15. Practice starting Aug 1 for all U6-U19 and playing a 10-game season starting Aug 15 and ending Oct 24.

2.                   The most likely scenario would be registration opening on June 15. Practice starting Aug 1 for all U6-U19 and playing an 8-game season starting Aug 15 and ending Oct 10.

3.                   The worst-case scenarios would be no fall season.

All scenarios are dependent on when what and how State and Local Government officials relax current Stay at Home and Social Distancing restrictions.

REC Coaches – We will be holding a Virtual Coaches Meeting the week of June 8 to review the new Coaches Registration process for those returning coaches and anyone who wishes to coach in the fall.  If not a returning coach and are considering coaching please contact Stephanie Doke at [email protected] or you may contact Jes Vargas at [email protected] to include you in the meeting.

COMPETITIVE (COMP) PROGRAM

COMP Tryouts - NorCal Premier has established TENTATIVE dates for the tryout window to be between June 6th-June 28th. Again, these are TENTATIVE dates and may be subject to change. These dates will be confirmed by NorCal Premier no later than May 29th.

Actual physical tryout dates will depend upon State, County, and City governments allowing the return of youth soccer. Once the tryout window dates are confirmed, we will establish the tryout process and will communicate that process with all of you by email and through our website. The tryout process will be created to support the safety of our staff, coaches, and players by following all guidelines as established by all State and local agencies.

COMP Tryout Registration – NYSL has opened COMP Tryout Registration this morning.  Any REC player or COMP player who is not playing for NYSL is welcome to register at https://tshq.bluesombrero.com/Default.aspx?tabid=2464124.   All returning NYSL COMP platers must register online at https://tshq.bluesombrero.com/Default.aspx?tabid=2464124.  Should you have any questions, please contact our Registrar Stephanie Doke at [email protected] or you may contact Luis Quezada at [email protected].

COMP Spring Credits/Refunds – We are currently working with NorCal on confirming the final dollar amounts.   NorCal has committed to respond by May 29, we expect to send out an email on June 1 to all COMP families with the exact Credit/Refund amount.

As we transition through the State’s “Stage” Roadmap to Modify the COVID-19 Stay-at-Home Order, we all should NOT expect a normal Fall Season. We should be prepared for social distancing requirements, the wearing of a mask by coaches & spectators, the limitation in the number of spectators at each game, the separation of games, etc.…,  We must all remember, our number one priority is the safety and health of our most precise treasures, our children, our parents, our families, and friends.

We will continue to monitor the constantly evolving situation and provide updates as appropriate. Please stay safe and healthy.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Jes Vargas at [email protected]  or our Registrar Stephanie at [email protected] .

Respectfully,

NYSL Board of Directors

Message from NYSL Board regarding 2020 Fall Cancellation of Recreational League

Hello NYSL REC Families
In response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, the Capital Soccer Alliance (CSA) has made the difficult
decision to cancel inter-club/league play for the upcoming Fall 2020 soccer season. This decision has
been made in order to best protect our communities from potential exposure to the COVID-19 virus and
to reduce the likelihood of unnecessary transmission through close contact during recreational sports
activities. Please note that this decision was unanimous, and the following reasons were also factors:
• Local public health officials have not yet released guidelines on how to safely conduct soccer
games. Current Sac County guidelines that have been released only cover small group
conditioning activities with many restrictions: Games and scrimmages are NOT allowed.
• The city park fields that we use are not open to organized youth sports activities until July
15 th at the earliest and then are open only for small group conditioning with many extensive
restrictions.
• In the weeks prior to our joint meeting, reported cases and hospitalizations due to COVID-19
were increasing locally.
• We are concerned about placing an undue burden on volunteer coaches to implement
appropriate social distancing and other guidelines that would have to be emplaced for
public safety.

The CSA partners did not make this decision lightly. We are all committed to providing a safe
environment for the youth of our communities to experience the sport of soccer. Unfortunately, the
unprecedented circumstances of the global COVID-19 pandemic have created a scenario where we do
not believe that we can effectively create a safe environment for league play. We hope that we can all
return to league play in 2021.
Our priority here at NYSL is the safety of our children, parents, grandparents, staff, and community.
With that said we all feel the deep disappointment of not playing our fall season, but if permitted we
plan to hold several Training Camps possibly in late August and September. We will keep you posted.
For those REC coaches who wish to participate and support these Training Camps please contact Jes
Vargas at [email protected]
For those of you who had registered for spring and have not requested a refund, please contact
Stephanie our registrar at [email protected] to make arrangements.
For your information, attached please find the official communique from CSA. Should you have any
questions, please do not hesitate contact Jes Vargas at [email protected] or Stephanie at
[email protected]

Respectfully,
NYSL Board
